The Art of Breathing is a specialised method developed by Jessica Wolf, a senior teacher of the Alexander Technique based in New York. It integrates principles from traditional Alexander work with advanced breath coordination, drawing on Jessica’s studies with Carl Stough, a pioneer in breath therapy for respiratory rehabilitation. Breath is one of the first things we control when we feel unsafe or unseen. Over time, this control becomes a habit, and that habit becomes invisible.
Colin’s approach is not about doing breathing exercises or trying to “breathe better.” Instead, he helps students let go of the interference that often gets in the way of natural breath, tension in the ribs, shallow breathing patterns and holding your breath without realising it. This technique teaches you how to use your breath to reduce anxiety, sleep better and enjoy a sense of calm in your everyday life.
As your posture becomes more responsive and the nervous system begins to settle, breath returns to its natural full, quiet depth. Clients often describe a new sense of space in the torso, less gripping in the chest or throat and a surprising shift in how they relate to themselves.
